Elmore Park Middle School is located in Bartlett, TN and operates as a part of Bartlett City Schools. Each year the school serves approximately 800 students in grades 6-8. The demographic makeup of the school is 65% White, 22% African-American, 5.5% Hispanic, 4% Multi-Racial, and 3% Asian. Additionally, the school is recognized as a Title 1 school with almost 50% of the students receiving Free or Reduced Lunch. Students come to EPMS via its two feeder schools in Bartlett and Altruria Elementary Schools as well as inter- and out-of-district Open Enrollment.
Over the past three years EPMS has transitioned from a traditional learning environment with the curriculum stemming predominantly from textbooks to that of a 1:1 environment in which all students have access to a MacBook Air device and utilize open source curriculum and other software for gathering and demonstrating their knowledge. These changes might seem neutral on the surface, yet the historical organization and operation of the school are incrementally changing and thus creating new opportunities for student learning to be happen.
